Rugged is the right word! Thanks again for letting me have it... it would otherwise not have been quite as sweet a win .
I am lucky to have a friend at work who is a part time us coin dealer. I show him my better new ancient coins and give him a common coin now and then to spread the disease. I think ancient coin collecting can be spread like bronze disease: through physical contact with coins. John
Love those crocodile coins! Some day I hope to have one too, really like ancients depicting wild animals! John
My Croc Coin... AUGUSTUS AND AGRIPPA, NEMAUSUS IMP / DIVI F, Back-to-back heads of Augustus left and Agrippa right COL - NEM, Crocodile right, chained to palm tree, wreath in left field, two palm branches below crocodile. RIC I 155
JB's coin has a lot that I look for in one of these. The flan is large enough to contain the design even though the obverse centering is not perfect. The portrait of Agrippa shows the rostral crown clearly and both faces strike me as well executed and look like the individual. Getting both ends of the crocodile on flan is not something you take for granted. The coin shows the expected adjustment scratches but thy do not destroy important detail. The legend is complete save the very bottom of the DIVI F and the chain is exceptionally clear. You will not find better reverse centering. How many of these do you see with full dotted border? Certainly there is wear which would make it undesirable to people who can't stand wear but the only fault I see on the coin is the uneven coloring. I would be proud to have that coin in my collection.
It's a fat crocodile with teeth on the top of its snout. I'd post more photos but my laptop only displays icons instead of thumbnail images! Anyone know how to change that in Windows 7? Until I get that fixed, I can't even locate the photos I want to post let alone contribute at CT the way I'd like to.
Wonderful posts one and all !!!!! I LOVE seeing these types and still have a 'complete' version on my wish-list (only a modest piece of As for me)..... Terrific find @zumbly!!! That's the first NIM I've ever noticed. .....and a special nod to TIF and Steve.
Yay! Crocs are boss. Love the coins, everyone! It's been a really slow year for me, which is what I expected. But, I'm still enjoying my croc. It's not the best, but I'm still happy with it. Erin
