Not too long ago I grabbed this old Whitman folder from my LCS, which gives out these old folders for free. This album, made in early 1964, was made before the Coinage Act that year and the switch to clad coinage, in addition to the omission of mintmarks 1965-67. Whitman predicted a 1965-D nickel, but no such nickel came to exist...
I know I have dime folders with a 1965-D slot, and maybe one for cents, but I don't think I've seen a nickel folder with it. Anybody seen quarters? Or a 1963 Franklin folder with a 1964 slot?
Pretty cool. I have an unused Whitman cent album from my grandfather. I'd have likely given it away by now but the mintages are blank from 1981 onward. Because of this I think it's cool and obviously denotes that it is vintage.
The classic coinage folders for 1800's coins are quite pricey if you can even find them. Sometimes the "Nickel Trader" who advertises in Numismatic News has them. Many are collectible in their own right.
I have a lincoln cents album Copyright 1960 and ends at 1965 D which never happened ( one of the thick whitman ones with the plastic slides over the coin)
