I think the reason they wernt numbered is because they were
More are less testing them out, I will have to dive in to my books
To see if i can verify that though, But not numbering them would
Make number 1 worth the same as a 101, But i dont think they
Were thinking along the those lines though!

The Thai and Korean MPC coupons were not money themselves. When they received their pay in MPC, they also received the equivalent amount in coupons. When they spent their MPC, they had to also hand over the same amount in coupons. The idea was to prevent them from spending MPC they obtained on the blackmarket. Since a soldier could never have more coupons than the pay received, he was theoretically limited to spending at the official establishments no more than he received in pay. Since he did not have coupons for the blackmarket MPC, he could not spend those in the official establishments.

This does not explain why some were not numbered but does explain how they were supposed to be used.

Did it entirely solve the problem? No. The coupons were counterfeited.

Connor1.. I wish I could answer that question..what I do know is that the Korean MPC's never had SN , however, they did have the dollar denom on the back with an official seal. The Thai Series however, the first 2 Series had no SN but the Series 3 had introduced SN to the dollar denomination and it is said that circumstantial evidence is extant that a $20 denomination was never prepared or issued.

    That's all I have..

Thanks Rick,Lettow just made an interesting post that partially answers the coupon & equivalent MPC issue prevent counterfeiting ,but I guess it will remain a mystery for now as to why that series never had serial #.
