No mint luster!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Some of the Proof Ikes come real close to mirror surfaces (not mirror like).

    OK - but what does any of this have to do with a coin not having luster ? Coins graded as low as VF can still have traces of original mint luster. I fail to see what the changing grade has to do with your original comment about -
    While I would readily agree with you that grading companies the likes of PCI, NNC, and PSGS may slab coins that have no mint luster as MS, I have yet to see any coin slabbed as MS by NGC, PCGS, ICG or ANACS that did not have mint luster.

    As for the example you provided - HERE - even in the poor pictures used in that auction, luster is still evident to see although it is greatly muted by the toning on the coins.

    I agree with GDJMSP. Something else to keep in mind - your asking us to look at pictures and pictures do not always show the mint luster. So far I have not see a big 3 coin that did not have mint luster in the MS grade. Of course I am not sure what "original" mint luster would look like on something like a draped bust half.
