Several weeks ago I bought a coin from a seller on eBay and paid immediately with PayPal. Fully three hours after I paid for the coin, eBay sent me a message saying it looked like I hadn’t yet paid, and advising me not to, as they were canceling the sale because it looked like it wasn’t legit. Not only did eBay cancel the sale . . . they deleted the listing. They removed all evidence that it ever existed. I can’t even bring up any detail from the listing. No photos, no seller name, no price, no sales date . . . Not even an eBay item number! If my payment had failed, I could understand them stepping in and canceling a suspect listing to protect the buyer. They gave no reason as to why the listing looked illegitimate, so I did some research, and found the same seller had already listed the same coin earlier the same day . . . twice. Unfortunately, checking my PayPal transaction page revealed the guy has my money so, for the past several weeks I have been tirelessly trying to reach both the seller and eBay Customer Service. The seller won’t respond to my messages (using the email address in the PayPal transaction page), so I’m not going to get satisfaction on that end. eBay has apparently furloughed their CS department during the COVID-19 crisis, as no one is there to take calls. Their automatic receptionist just tells callers to use their boiler plate FAQ system to resolve issues. What sort of on-line business would leave their customers hanging high and dry with no phone or email support of any kind, let alone an industry behemoth like eBay? I don’t want to push PayPal to resolve this issue since they didn’t cause it. eBay should own this issue, but I can’t even make them aware that it exists. Incredibly frustrating!
