Ok , ok I understand now , I thought you meant the coin didn't have any luster at all ! What I've been doing to try and determine if the coin has luster that is market acceptable is comparing it to graded AU coins ..
Just as the coin above a different AU 1911 , they all appear about like this in photos .. AUish coins anyway , so that lead me to believe if almost every slabbed AU barber looked similar to the one in question then it should be ok .. Anyway I purchased the coin for AU 50 money just a minute ago ! So I guess we will see ..
The image of the 1916 is out of focus. Can't see any luster. The image of the 1911 is pretty good. The surfaces look dead. It has been worked on.
Just guessing, I don't think it does have descent luster, but it is a guess. Those pictures do not lend themselves to showing luster.
The 1911 above your last post is a ngc graded coin , in my opinion it looks worse than the 1911 I first posted ! The one I just purchased! So which 1911 are you talking about ?
With all due respect I believe you both are wrong ! I mainly collect barber dimes , have hundreds of slabbed , several being AUish .. This coin probably isn't ms63 but AU coins don't have the same amount or type of luster you see on an unc coin .. Go to eBay look at about 5-6 AU 55-58 barber dimes slabs by ngc or pcgs and then tell me what you see with this coin that you don't see on every AU slabbed barber dime on eBay . If this is the case every single AU coin graded on eBay has some type of problem !
I thought you wanted opinions? My opinion is that the OP coin does not look right. If you like the coin, that's fine but I don't.
Well I believe it's the slab you don't like more than it is the coin . As I've showed up Several other ngc coins that look the same ? Yet you seem not to have a problem with any of them ! That's ok , guess I will see when it gets here !
You are correct. I did not give an opinion of the other two coins you posted in this thread. They look nothing like the topic coin. I trust that NGC got the first one right even with the out of focus image. I don't think NGC graded the second one and it looks like it was cleaned at some point in it's life. With that said, It would be easy to pick the OP coin to death. It would detail grade at NGC or PCGS. With better images I might change my opinion of any of the three coins.
My initial reaction to the OP photos was "scrubbed to death"; I would've passed on the auction without a second look. I may well be wrong. I don't end up with too many harshly-cleaned coins, but I'm sure I also miss a lot of good specimens.
So this coin below is fine , nothing at all wrong with it, graded AU 55 at ngc... Now the bottom coin that doesn't look half as bad has several different problems ? Yeah right !
Well to be frank that's what pisses me off, I have you picking a coin to death that you have never seen other than in some crappy listing photos .. I would bet every coin I own , if I show you this very same coin in a pcgs or ngc holder not a problem would be found ! All I've been trying to get you guys to realize is this coins look about or similar to almost every photo of mid AU barber dimes online ! I understand you are trying to help , but for goodness sake cut me a bit of slack till I get a decent photo of the coin !
I swear to ya they did AU 55 , I'm try trying to be an smart A just because you didn't tell me what I wanted to hear ! Almost every mid AU barber dime I have looks that way and most you see on eBay for sale in the AU-53-58 range do !!
Since it obvious you know little to nothing about barber dimes or what is market acceptable for an AU barber ! I won't ! Atleast not from you !
