I have a question......Is there any good reason to save the 2005 Buffalo backed nickels .... or the 2004 Lewis and clark nickels? or any modern nickel with a back other then Monticello?

My advice: collect what makes you happy.

With regards your question, there are varieties for those dates worth collecting. Perhaps the most significant is the 2004 DDO from Philly (Peace). Also, if you are building a Roll Set (a roll of nickels per date/mm) then keeping the very best you can find has some importance. But saving buckets of them because they are plentiful is probably not a great reason. Kind of like the State quarters: plentiful.

just an update ... out of 10 rolls of nickels I got today. I found 2 war nickels. A badly damaged 1943 P and a fair 1943 S. I also found 2 1969 S nickels. I love finding S coins. Rarely Run across them here on the east coast.

No matter how damaged it is always nice to find silver :)

That makes sense. So now I need to go back through my stash and flip any 2009's. Great, yet another thing on the list to do with my hoard. Yay.

nothing spectacular but I found this 1963 that’s in great shape for its age.

Hard to believe it came out of a MWR. I still cant believe people break open proof sets and spend them. But sometimes I'm glad they do.

You took nice pictures but I couldn’t tell from them to see finer details/diagnostic markers. But some of my best CRH nickels are nickels from the 60’s: high grade DDOs and DDRs.
