Nickel MAD question

I noticed that MAD nickels have a ring line on them within the collar on the side that’s misaligned and thus missing details. I guess I kind of assumed that the misaligned side missing details wouldn’t have the ring because the die should extend beyond the collar. I hope I explained that right, but it makes me think I’m missing or misunderstanding something about misaligned dies. Anyone understand what I’m asking and what the answer might be?

@Rick Stachowski or @Fred Weinberg can either of you gentlemen help me understand MADs and why a ring formed where it did on the side missing details? I had assumed that this side wouldn’t display this ring due to being misaligned.

Concur. Thanks for the informative link. What confuses me, is that if it’s struck out of collar, why does it still have that ring around it that looks to be inside he edge of the coin. I would’ve thought the ring would not exist, because the hammer die struck outside the collar. Makes sense?
