yeah it seems a few suckers are making real bids. Like some guy with 900 rating just bid 26 bucks for it. So far I am still waiting for someone to go all bidding war with me so I can shoot for the moon .
Just sent the seller a note: "I have a question about the date on the coin and the size. Can you tell me the size of this item and why the date numbers so large?" Let's see if I even get an answer.
I don't know how many know about this site, but here it is anyway. You can put in the item number for eBay items and actually see how many watchers it has. I found it very useful when I was heavy into purchasing rear coins. The 1877 eBay item #: 280864123796 http://www.watchcount.com
Now that he changed the listing to show it as a replica, what about the bids that were entered while thinking it was real?
Wow, thanks for that link! While bidding I've actually been curious to know how many watchers something had but figured it was just something the seller could see. I will be using that quite a bit! Thanks
Thanks for sharing the link. I can't understand how could this website get the info about amount of watchers, this is not something that is shared or revealed by any way by eBay. After playing around for a while with watching and removing from watch list, and checking results on this site, I get the feeling this is some kind of estimate, not true numbers.
So are you 3***k (with a bid $4125), t***t (new account, with a bid of $4514), or 2***u (new account, high bidder with a bid of $4564)?
im the one with the current high bid of 8500 lol. I wonder if the seller realizes people are messing with him or if hes freaking out because he thinks hes about to get rich lol.
I say just let him be, it doesn't seem like he's trying to rip anybody off or anything, he did correct his mistake. It just seems like he doesn't know much, or even anything, about coins. He probably just looked up "1877 indian head penny" and thought he would try to sell it. With that being said, even if he is trying to rip somebody off, it's a new ebay account. They will hold the funds for up to 21 days before he can even get to them. I only have 36 feedback on ebay, with only a couple from selling, I wasn't able to get ahold of my 10 bucks until three days after the item was delivered, which would be PLENTY of time for somebody to open a complaint and start a chargeback on paypal. Now all that you guys are doing is getting somebody's hopes up. I know if I would be kind of upset if I was trying to sell something I didn't know much/anything about, I was bid up to some insane amount, and then nobody paid. Also there are probably people that would legitimately want a 3" copy of this coin for whatever reason. If there was no market for them, nobody would even bother making them.
Well seeing as its already at 5k its already way too late for that lol. Best we can do is have fun and try to hit a million.
I can see reporting the auction or contacting the seller as someone did to verify the item which occurred and he did update the listing. Abusing ebay bidding up on an item with no intent to ever pay isn't something to do for fun imo it's immature. What if you are the winning bidder don't pay and the seller decides to take you to small claims court, I'm sure that wouldn't be fun. It's also not going to be fun for the seller to owe ebay a massive final value fee that he'll have to deal with filing a non paid item, etc before ebay will credit his account.
