NGC Scratch-Resistant Holder - Worth It?

    This is a good point. Most collectors treat slabs carefully. I've seen a few being careless at coin club meetings, but most treat them almost as if they were raw coins. However, many dealers and auction houses treat them like used hockey pucks. There have been countless times I've seen dealers sliding them across glass cases like they were playing foosball or air hockey.

    In other words, a scratch-resistant slab is only beneficial to you when someone else has already paid for it. :)

    Exactly. If a holder has a chipped stacking block it almost always was from being in an auction house at some point. I never really get why some dealers are so careless with them either, it just makes their life harder trying to sell a dinged up one.

    A slab with tempered glass windows would be even better than scratch-resistant plastic. It would cost more, but for higher end coins, it would be a worthwhile option.
