Just a thought: How many times you suppose a coin this old and this eye-catching comes in and the graders -- perhaps without intention -- act on the idea of "something's gotta be wrong with this"? Perhaps just a silly thought on my part...
The surfaces on the reverse look very smooth in places and more so than I would expect for the grade (compared to the other side). It may have been whizzed. I'll call it altered surfaces, the general catch all term used by TPGs. It also looks like it may have been cleaned.
AU details, cleaned. The hairlines on the obverse look like a pretty good indication of a rougher cleaning to me.
Outstanding coin. The surfaces lack depth, and we all know why that is. Good color and absence of distractions on her.
Looks like a small scratch from the tip of the eagles left wing and the last A in America also. Beautiful coin.
From the picture, great eye appeal, I'd love to have it in my collection. Buy the slabs from Amos and slab it yourself.
