Yes, it is the law. That is because title cannot be passed on a counterfeit coin sold as being genuine.

Yeah, they can do that. And you can challenge them right back, and take them to court if necessary.

But usually, they won't bother challenging you they'll just give you your money back. Assuming you have credible proof that the coin is indeed a counterfeit.

That really sucks, Don't feel bad, this would have gotten by me too and a lot of other very experienced graders on this forum

There is a good video I found on YouTube on how to tell if it is fake. Just search
"How To Spot Counterfeit 1955 Double Dye Lincoln Coins"

Finally some honesty. Funny from someone who claims to have been a professional grader though

Come on guys, this is a coin forum, let's lighten up a little, you're scaring away the newbies that are afraid to ask questions.

He's a known troll that posts lie after lie, that's why he gets the responses he does.

Sorry I didn't know, but it still scares the newbies away. Maybe if you mentioned why you jumped on him? When I joined the forum I was going to use my nickname Monty, but a moderator warned me away from using it, because it was a known troll. That was a big help.

How would one go about double dying a linclon cent?

If you just look at the reverse and if it is aligned correctly, it's a fake.
The 55 DD all came from the same die, right?
They made (approx) 45,000. 20-25,000 already shipped, and when they discovered the error the rest were destroyed.
The 55 DD has a 10 degree counter clockwise reverse die rotation.
From the Lincoln Cent Resource: " "Check for two faint
    die scratches leading downward from
the left bar of the T in Cent to establish
    authenticity.
    "
The CherryPickers Guide Fourth Edition Vol. 1 pg. 122. The reverse is also slightly rotated counterclockwise about 10 deg.

Thanks for the tip, but if you go back through this thread, you'll see that several the reverse die location was mentioned several times. In the future I'll look for that if I have another opportunity to buy one.

This coin, the 55 DDO could be a great learning tool for others. From what I understand the coin was put away back in the 60s. Is it possible to see better images of both the obverse and the reverse?

I donated it to my coin club's collection of counterfeit coins. I'm not very good at taking close up photos, so I wouldn't help you very much. Here's the best I have. Note the gouge at 3:00 the scratches behind his ear, and the long scratch at his shoulder. I took this when I give it to the Club's holder of counterfeit coins. This photo, unlike my earlier one, is not retouched by Photoshop. 1955 Double Die Obverse.jpg
