At this last ANA they were accepting submissions but not grading on site. Delay will be the same.

The logical solution is to contact CAC, isn't it? Why not do so?

    Where?

As a side comment only....and I have stated many times I do not grade from photos.....the piece is labeled FBL.

I will state my thoughts are at odds with that, and suspend my questions about the FBL, and attribute my present disagreement with that designation as due to less than stellar photography.

Why would you have to send it to either to determine the error, they can look up their cert just as easy as I can. Once they realize the mistake they can decide how or if to remedy it.

Yea its really quite absurd at this point. Even world express is at 55 business days which is just a joke

I get that they're swamped right now but they need to at least stop charging people when they open the box with times like these. They're basically just getting a free loan from people

PCGS is really slow too right now but at least they don't charge until it ships

If the only thing that was wrong with it was the date or missing the mint mark those two things are so easy to see I wouldnt bother sending it back and waiting months to get it corrected. You'd be looking at probably 3 months right now to have that fixed so no thank you on that wait

The only way to remedy a label issue is to send it back to them for a new label. The whole send it to us so we can determine whats wrong is just standard customer service response

For what it is, it's not that big of a deal and it was returned as what was received was not product described. It's not mine so I have nothing to do with it. Was just made aware of it. I decided to share it as a rather surprising and strange anomaly that is out there.

It doesn't work for a registry. And yes, we're well aware of the insane wait times as both of us dealt with it all of last year and are still dealing with it. It was returned.

Personally couldnt care less about that and the vast majority of buyers couldnt care less either. Now if it was purchased for the registry I understand that being an issue. That said presumably the registry purchase would be made based off the label and the cert would actually work for the registry

I somewhat agree but, as you said if the grade is correct then maybe CAC would let the label error slide. I have my doubts about that. I agree that the grade on the plastic is not what you're buying you are buying the coin. If the coin matches the grade that's a plus. However, as you know sometimes coins are over graded and some are under graded. Buy the coin not the plastic. As far as the error of the label I would hope CAC wouldn't put a sticker on it. If I was planning to send it into CAC, I would first send it back to NGC for a correction. Then send it to CAC. CAC is like a final judge so why put their name on a mislabeled product. If the coin, slab and CAC sticker are legit the other thing to consider is could it be possible to remove a CAC sticker and put it on another slab. This could easily be checked out by calling CAC. They should have record of that coin in the slab and if they put a CAC sticker on it. If I was the buyer, I would be calling CAC for verification.

You and I are in agreement. My point was they are only grading the coin. Trust me, it could be as simple as ONLY looking at the grade part of the label. Things as this happen all the time. That's how half dollars get out with 25c on the label and "S" Mint coins go out w/o the mintmark. It all begins at input. Many of our customers (including major dealers) don't bother to fill out the date/mint correctly. Several years ago, I was pressed into service to help the Q/C guys cut down on label errors.:facepalm::oops: We (+me) still miss some due to familiarity. The best QC folks here are women who know less about coins and check them slow and more carefully.

I would have to imagine the CAC sticker is not easily removed without destroying otherwise this would happen all the time. They're probably destructible stickers just like a car license sticker. And they are associated with what they go on. When you enter in a registry coin on NGC now, the registry knows if it has a CAC or not so they are verifiable.

On the subject of mechanical errors, I think it would be much easier to miss a mint mark than screw up a date, but they manage to do that as well.

This thread has pretty well explored the problem but I would just like to add a few things since I just sent this back for label correction. First is that for label corrections of mechanical errors, the certification number does not change (see photos below). Since the CAC certification is tied to the certification number of the coin, it may lose the actual sticker, but it doesn't lose its CAC certification which can be verified through the CAC website.

Second thing is that although NGC doesn't charge for label correction, you still have to pay for shipping and handling both ways, which will end up costing you as much as the certification fee unless you send it in with another submission.

Regarding the turnaround time, I mailed this coin on 10/9/2021, it was entered into the system on 11/3/2021 and shipped on 12/22/2021 which is less than 2 months. That said, the turnaround times have grown even larger over the holidays, and 3+ months is not out of the question at this time.

    True.

I wish they would go back to grading on-site. They told me last time "because of covid..." Covid messes up on-site grading, too? Really? A public school can shove 32 Fifth Graders into a single 30' X 30' classroom, but a handful of people can't sit in a dark room at a convention center of about the same size or bigger and grade coins... Whatever.

You cant force graders to go if they dont want to. More importantly they are SOOOOOOOOOOOO FAR behind grading in general it would be irresponsible to pull any graders away for a show until they get at least close to caught up
