The madness will end when the rank and file of the true coin collectors turn it off. But, as long as some keep buying into the scam it will never end. There is a difference between collecting coins and collecting labels.
Thank you, Inspector43, I did a search and didn't come up with any threads about it. NGC claims that "many customers" have requested such a designation. Obviously, that is a claim that is near impossible to either validate nor to rebut. Although I would not necessarily label it as a scam, I do have qualms with NGC stating that the designation is inherently "highly collectible". This was just announced today...I would personally view this as unproven information.
They might be 'highly collectable' in some circles, but, I doubt that they have premium resale value.
I think this all has to do with the TV coin hawksters. Mezack is a master at selling common strikes at premium prices with flashy NGC labels.
