Hey! My name is Conin and I am 22 years old and also the owner of this half dollar and the backstory is that me and my step father have done about 2 years worth of going through half dollar boxes with usually about 2-3 boxes every Tuesday of the week. For 1 month we went through 12 boxes EVERY Tuesday and found some CRAZY amounts of silver! Out of that hot streak there was this half dollar that my father thought it was silver and showed it to me. I got a good look of it and figured out this was odd. I had a scale for coins in my room and I brought it out. I noticed that the coin seemed to be solid copper-nickel! It weighed way less than what a regular half dollar should weigh and took it to a local coin shop that we were good friends with the owner and they had a $20,000 metal analyzer in their shop. Had it tested and it was completely Copper-Nickel! Did some more extensive research to find out that it was struck on a foreign planchet. I linked up the weights of the Taiwan 5 Yuan with the weight of the half and they matched! After sitting in our house for about a year waiting for a sponsor to send it to. Found Mr.Johnson on a Facebook group and seen that he takes coin submissions for PCGS and NGC. I personally prefer PCGS but it would cost me a good bit of money to have this coin graded by PCGS so I went with NGC this go round and got lucky!
