Have we discussed CombiBars yet? http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/12/21/swiss-gold-idUSL5E8NL4N820121221
(Hope this isn't threadjacking my own post, but it's conceptually related.) Has anyone seen or bought from one of the Gold-2-Go vending machines (mentioned in the article)? Is there still a unit in Boca Raton? Are the premiums really/still that terrible? http://www.cnn.com/video/#/video/us/2010/12/18/dnt.gold.atm.cnn
I'd imagine that's a similar demographic for Gold-bullion owners over here. But older lol. On the East Coast USA, ccording to EOL's website, there's now a vending machine in Stack's Bowers @ W.57th St Manhattan and another at the Golden Nugget in Atlantic City NJ. I see this in a dated news item, but I could've sworn that the initial premium in 2010 was outrageous, ~25%! Maybe it was added sales tax or something.... http://www.thenational.ae/news/uae-news/golden-hole-in-the-wall-at-emirates-palace
Yes, last I heard the premiums on those machines are still high. So much for the efficiency of not having to pay an employee, huh? I read the article on CombiBars. Anyone want to wager on the over/under of when Chinese fakes of these would appear on the market if these became popular? Sorry, I simply prefer coins that I can easily verify physical dimensions and weights to ensure they are really PM.
If the economy collapses and cash is devalued, wouldn't it be more practical to use silver for trade?
Gold and Silver "combi" bars are available at APMEX now, but I haven't seen them at any of the other "big" PM dealer websites yet.
Just looked at the APMEX site; the newly listed Ag "Combi-Coin" (100 g Ag) retails USD$197. The intrinsic value (POS) is $96.45! Good grief: is there a worse premium (aside from Norfeds) out there?
Yes, the premium is too high for them, the silver one in particular, but I still went ahead and bought one of each.
