It's been a while since I've been active on the forum (maybe a few months) - but now that the annual ordeal of fireworks and the absolutely necessary one-week post-fireworks hiatus/vacation is over, I'm back! To celebrate my return, I'd like to share two new purchases from this summer. Enjoy! Great Britain - 1894 1 Penny KM 755 Mintage: 3,883,000 Price Guide: XF40 ($135) MS60 ($475) MS63 ($550) Great Britain - 1902 "Low Sea Level" 1 Penny KM 794.1 Mintage: est. 1.1 million (about 1/22 of normal mintage of 26m) Price Guide: XF40 ($185) MS60 ($350) MS63 ($375) Due to condition/rarity, I'm thinking these will be included in my next NGC submission. You are welcome to share your thoughts on my coins, or your own examples. Thanks!
This is an error I've never understood. What makes this one different? I compared it to a 1900 penny I happen to have a photo of. Is there slightly more space between her foot and the water?
It's not really an error, just a die variety. And yea, the difference is whether the water line touches the ankle or if it falls well below it.
Oddly enough I picked up a very nice raw example of this same variety just a couple months ago. Great finds dude, the 1894 is especially appealing
There is a good explanation of the variety and photo set here. There is a lovely bit of color on the reverse of that 1894. I'm thinking it will grade MS...so it will be interesting to see where it ends up. Also thinking the 1902 ends up as a high AU.
If you don't mind my asking, what did you pay for your 1902? (You can PM me if you'd prefer to keep it private.)
I also vote for a RB, prob. 63 on the first (has nice hard lustre as the Brits like to say). Also on the AU55 train for the '02. Numismat, that is an absolutely lovely LT there!
