3c. silver 1851-O pcgs obv.jpg 3c. silver 1851-O pcgs rev.jpg I have a terrible time judging surfaces from photos. My guess was 45 but I could see AU something. for comparison here is an MS example:

Like the last poll, this one seems to have stalled at 19 votes, and I said I’d reveal the answer after 20. Close enough.

I could see that. I voted just under it, but could see it.

As always, you pick great coins. This is one of those coins where a 58 is so nice you just can’t justify paying for MS nor is it necessary

I just voted. I went AU-58. I'm surprised it wasn't called rim damage at the bottom there. I think sometimes they are more forgiving on the smallest coinage. But, 3 people approved it.

58! I was way off as often the case. (the one I posted above is MS64)

AU50 was my guess in the poll. I pondered on an EF, reconsidering the possibility of a weak strike which the New Orleans mint was plagued with.

The coin just arrived and is nicer in hand. There's a trace of luster not seen in the photos. I'd almost call it "semi-prooflike", though that is perhaps a stretch. It is also whiter in hand than seen in the large photos above.

I have only one Silver Three-Cent Piece (Trimes). It was part of my fathers collection. Now that you broke it up, I want to look at it more closely to see exactly what my father left me. Most of my collection is with modern coins, however, I've been known to collect older coins. Your coin is beautiful and from your message, you like to collect older coins as well. Keep the faith.

For me, the older stuff is where the fun is!
