Just kidding, it looks like it has been wizzed and dipped and then run over by a train. Outstanding buy!
I was looking at a few Indians that he had there in his case but I only had a few hundred bucks on me and he didnt take plastic so I went with the Liberty $5. Im going to go back up there in a few weeks and maybe pick up a nice $5 or $10 Indian. They're up there every weekend at this flea/antique market in Thomasville, PA. , just east of New Oxford, PA. He gave me a card but I, umm, my wife must have lost it...lol
It's true... happened to me ! Love 'em. Nice buy. At today's gold prices, the gold alone is worth almost $165. Getting a nice piece for $175 is a great move. Plus, they're just cool. My first gold was an 1861 $5 bought at the Houston coin show many years ago. Always loved it.
Be EXTREMELY careful with $5 Indians. Many are cleaned. Also... some folks think they're tricky to grade, so sometimes they're overgraded.
Thanks for the info 900. I'll keep that in mind while I'm looking at them. I thought it was kind of strange that most of the $5 Indians he had were at least AU. But, maybe it was just coincidence. All of his coins were raw also, so he obviously graded them himself. The dealers name is Morea's Coins from Hanover, PA but he sets up every weekend at a place called Morningstars Market, a flea/antique market.
