My source lists Draped Bust Half Cents having 32 varieties. For the moment prices limit me to 22 of them. I currently have 12.
That's one extra fine looking 1/2¢. Seems like a daunting and ominous quest trying to collect the years let alone the varieties. Good luck. It appears you've got an incredible start.
I am expecting Ed Fuhrman's new book on 1793 to 1797 half cents next week. I already have his previous two books on half cents. They are nicely done.
Speak of the devil, the Fuhrman book just arrived. The Half Cent Handbook/Liberty Cap Varieties 1793-1797 I believe that completes the set of three books. Just in time too since I'm looking online at a 1797 half cent.
@kanga, are you back from the EAC Convention? Did you get anything there? Do tell. I was on-line for the auction and bid on three coins but didn't get anything. Prices were strong!
I just got back from EAC a little bit ago. I had a great time. Picked up four new books and two coins on the bourse floor, managed to get two items our of the auction. Still kicking my self for not going after the S-16 when I saw how low it was going for. I suspect though that the internet bidder was probably willing to go a lot higher. The thing went cheap in my opinion. I got on the floor, 1794 S-38 R-5, 1801 NC-1 R-6 7th finest known In the auction I got 1802 NC-1 R-5+, and an 1820 N-13. An AU-55, and glossy brown. The books were Michael Demlings second edition of the New Jersey identification book, a copy of his Massachusetts variety identification book, Chuck Heck's book on the die stages of the 1794 cents, and a new book on variety identification for the 1793-1814 cents being sold by John Wright. I also spoke with another gentleman who bleves he can track down a copy of Manley's half cent die stages book for me.
