I would probably slab the 1831 half, but send it with a bunch of other similarly valued coins. The gold you mention is a maybe. Post pictures here. If they aren't problem coins (cleaned, scratched, removed from jewelry), or they are better dates, then they'll probably be worth slabbing for the reasons above.
