When you buy from eBay, you get what you pay for, in some instances.

SGS is a basement grader, and has no true experience with grading. The bulk of their "slabbed" stuff is MS/PR70; however, their asking price is for a mid MS/PR range.

    Not reputable at all.

A little search the net before the buy would have helped in your case.

If it's not PCGS, NGC, ANACS, or ICG, it's garbage grading at best.

Yes, this will help you in evaluating the sellers out there by their feedback.

Don't forgret coins slabbed by GEC, one of my most despised phony slabbers.

Still doesn't mean they aren't Uncirculated. You can over dip an unc coin until all the luster is stripped off and it is still unc. And unc coins believe it or not can have crud on them.

I don't know they show pictures of Shiny new looking coins .. claim there amazing , What A Deal This is !!! and on and on
even claim there enclosed in a book
what I got were crappy looking coins in plastic tubes and 2 dollar folders on the side They mentioned nothing about "Dipping" coins
If that sounds like a fair deal ... maybe I picked a bad hobby for me and my daughter to share
Picking fleas off of goats sound like more fun .. :)

I begin to wonder what ever happened to honesty and integrity in people now a day's

Welcome to CoinTalk, I would find it difficult to believe if anyone here claimed that they never lost money when they first started collecting coins. If you stick with the hobby for a while and learn as much as you can, you will be much less likely to get ripped in the future.

Don't give up on coin collecting so easily. Education is key in this hobby. If you don't know how to grade coins you are at the mercy of the sellers. Most sellers are honest (to a degree) but, as you have learned, there are plenty of dishonest sellers out there.

Learn to grade coins yourself. There are plenty of resources available to help you learn. You can start by getting a copy of the ANA Grading Standards for United States Coins. But you cannot learn to grade from a book. The book can only teach you so much. You will need to look at lots and lots and lots of coins. Go to coin shows. Go to coin shops. Look at coins on eBay and Heritage. When you pick up a slabbed coin cover the grade and grade the coin yourself. With practice you should be able to get within a point or two of the top tier TPGs.

I'm not giving up .. you really think I want to take up picking fleas off goats ? LOL

I got ripped &_ I can live with it .. not from being able to self grade coins or lack of sense ,, but from being deceived ...
Ebay as bad of a place it may be .. I found some good deals on there as well as bad ,, welcome to the world .. Right ?

With being deceived all I'm trying to do is get the people to pay up or come up with product as they were paid for and made a contracted agreement on
but if your telling me crappy coins fit the wonderful uncirculated collection description .. thats pretty beat on my part

All the reading I have done on US coins I feel pretty confident these Abon guys sold me crap and led me to believe it was Treasure
and all the reading I have done on Abon , they have made a habbit of doing business that way and there's nothing I can do about it ?

For those of us in the sticks, miles and miles from coin shops or shows, you HAVE to learn coin grading by the Book. Q David Bower's "Grading Coins By Photographs" is an excellent reference book. I do like Hobo's Leadership of looking on Heritage! What an excellent idea! :)

I knew it wasn't an MS65 going into the auction since I also knew that SGS was and still is a junk grading service.

Having you even mentioned the MS65 price tells me you're not really paying attention.

The ONLY reason the coin sold for $51 was that some newbie thought for sure it was an MS65 1972 IKE worth close to $300!

    OK
thought I was paying attention .. MS-65 goes for $$... you have actually bought after proper grading MS-64 worth$$... for the amount of $$ .....
If there is more to it then I wouldn't mind you telling me .. I'm pretty sure my A.D.D. has gotten better :)

are you referring that it turned out to be a type11 maybe ?
MS-65 type 1 1972 ike is worth less then 1/2 300.00 in fair market guide

Not in 2007 they weren't. Today you'd be lucky to get an honestly graded MS65 for $150.

As for the coin I purchased from Aboncom, I could plainly see it was a Type 2 reverse and bid accordingly. Obviously, Aboncom AND SGS didn't know the difference otherwise they'd have labelled it properly and made some decent money.
