The US Mint has brought back some old designs like the Buffalo design and the Ultra High Relief Double Eagle design. Do you think that they will bring back some other designs like the $ 5 Indian head or the $ 10 Indian? How many people would like to see newer coins with these designs? I personally would like to see them come back. I think they are one of the most beautiful designs of any gold coin ever made.
At times I do wonder if the Mint views using previous designs as simply a cost saving function. It seems like those issues with historical designs are very popular. We can hope they will take more design cues from our history. They are going back to a more original Lincoln portrait, I'd nominate a Liberty design, maybe Morgan's design, for a circulating dollar coin, perhaps one that we would really use.
I'd like to see them bring back all of the pre-World War II designs for cents, nickels, dimes, quarters and halves -- maybe even a baby sized morgan or peace dollar coin [even if they are clad]. I don't think it will ever happen.
Not 100% sure, but I think it would cost alot more to accurately recreate one of the classic designs since the Mint must be certain to make it look right since they will be compared with the classics. The $5 & $10 Indian Gold are two of my favorites, so I'd buy whatever the Mint makes with those designs :smile
I don't have any coins in my collection that pay homage to dead politicians. Our politicians are so narcissistic....they'll never place ideology and national identity above worship of their colleagues. I too would like to see all of our coins redesigned by "real sculptors"....but they'll just get uglier. The current renderings of our circulating coins look like the designs were rendered on 50 dollar software from the bargain bin at "Staples". Nightowl
The 2 Indians sound good to me..... How about a 1 ounce proof gold coin with the Oregon Trail Half design ???
