Very kind of you to say so! I'm pleased to own my modest example, but it's worth showing what one of these can look like. The one below sold at Heritage two months ago for $14k before fees. About seventy times what I paid for mine, but a relative steal considering the most expensive example of the type went for CHF 65k just a few years earlier?

Thank you all ! , very nice coins posted here from last night.
The ''Circus Maximus'' sestertius is special.

Trajan was declared emperor immediately after Nerva's death in 98 , but during this time he was the governor of Germania Superior and he stayed with his troops there till 99 when he finally returned to Rome. During this small period of 12 months the mints in Rome didn't have an official portrait of Trajan , consequently the engravers used the Nerva portrait as a source of inspiration.

The sequence of Trajan's portraits below represent the transition from his ''Nerva look'' portrait early COS II to the classical portrait used after the Dacian wars COS V - VI.
I only have a sestertius with a real ''Nerva look'' portrait:

@singig......Nice trio...I especially like the 'Heroic bust wearing aegis', but they're all cool!

@singig, Thanks for your remarkably comprehensive (and just Cool) treatment of the subject. ...What I do remember about the case of Vespasian is how there was the same kind of lag in his case, while he was still getting home from Judea after being declared emperor in absentia.
