I just wanted to post something super quick.

I am a very part time hobbiest. I enjoy looking for errors but recently started buying mint sets here and there.

I bought some sets from Darryl at an amazing price that he had listed in the for sale section. I am so excited its ridiculous! The sets are gorgeous and in perfect shape! I never had in my possession a "proof"....only seen in photos. Having a set in real life really shows how incredibly different they are. I never realized. I know this might sound silly to some but it really makes coin collecting fun to have this site as a resource.

I wanted to just share my excitement!! This site keeps this hobby fun and with good and honest people like Darryl offering sets like this makes it even better!!!

I will be sure to keep my eyes on the FS forum!!!

Thanks again Darryl for sharing in the fun with a newb like myself!!!

Careful!! Be aware that proof coins can be more addicting than class 1 narcotics!!..... Yes, there sure is something about holding a mirror proof coin in your hands. I love the excitement. Enjoy your new addiction!

Since proof coins are processed by hand, it makes it even more exciting when you find an error or variety in a US Mint Proof Set. I found the 2005-S KS SQ Silver Proof in my order from the Mint. It was eventually listed in the CPG as FS-901, Die Dent, and because it was the Top Pop (with no others) at PF70UCAM I was able to sell it for $1,000.

I love proofs! From my standpoint, they make great type coins to represent a series I don’t intend to collect up and down. Many of the prices are agreeable, too.

Are all proofs ms-70? or should I say pr-70? or PF70??? omg forget cameo. Oh forget it all. Proof is only rare apparently for first strikes in class. same as business or mint state. Good luck. only pcgs can decide. Q. How can a president walk with no legs. A. The United States Mints.

Yea , hard to get a good picture of a proof when it's encapsulated. Even pcgs is guilty of this.

To me, most are......but it takes a third party grading service to muddy the water......

So glad you like the coins, I never get tired of looking at coins from deep cameo proofs to a new/old pile of wheat cents. They all have a story to tell and are a nice break from the daily grind. :) Below is my desk at the moment. :D

Your desk is so clean brother!!! I admire that!!!

For $2 to $4 for these worth it. thank you for sharing the spirit of all this without trying to gouge members. It matters!!!! Honestly, the condition of the packaging was even better then the sets I got from amazon. You take good care of your collection thats for sure! The 1972 blue box the proof set is in is flawless considering its older than me!

LOL - you should see the rest of my desk.

Fortunately, the guy that owned them just wanted them turned into spendable cash and didn't want to feel like he was getting ripped. Besides the coins I bought at a price he was good with and everything I have sold he has gotten 100% of the money. He has tried to pay me multiple times and I wont take it. The enjoyment I get from going through the collection is worth it. Examples are like the coins/tokens shown below while not worth much, they are really cool. Didn't know anything about Blake & Co. Assayers until I saw this modern reproduction. Was an interesting learning opportunity.

Welcome to the world of proofs! They are amazing coins! If you remove a proof and touch it it becomes an impaired proof. Every once in a while one pops up in change. Not ever proof coin will grade a 70 either. So respect them for what they are and enjoy them for life. :)
