New Silver Proof Nickel?

I knew that but thought I would razz you a little because I think it's such a great idea to have a silver proof nickel. BTW - I do prefer the term nickel and realize how dumb it would be to ever try and change what we refer to the nickel as. If the nickel really will be made out of zinc soon, all the more reason to at least have a version that serves the collectors in a proper manner. I feel congress missed the mark on this point with the cent as the proof sets should have a cent made out of 100% copper. We are paying for the premimum and some of the coins are already minted in a different medal than the business strikes - so why not? Peace!

It was actually 35% silver war nickel. 56% copper and 9% manganese.

 

I'd like to see a proof silver nickle. Just another thing to collect and it would be as good looking as the other silver proof coins.

Although, in all honesty, it sounds much more attractive than any of the Presidential dollars!

 

The nickel five cent piece was never called a half dime. The silver five cent piece was called a half dime and the nickel one ws called a nickel. Before the Nickel five cent piece came out the nickel three cent piece was called a nickel. And believe it or not from 1857 to 1864 the term "nickel" refered to the copernickel ONE cent piece. (There are contemporary references that refer to the one cent pieces as "nick" or "nickels".)

 

The horror, the horror of semitics. If the five cent piece is going to be made out of zinc, then we will have to simply call them zincs. Now thats a funny sounding coin. This can get confusing if I ask the indian at the convience store to give me a zinc (new five cent piece) for five zincs (main composition of the penny).

 

If the mint did make a silver proof nickel, i guess it would be the first 90% silver coin without a reeded edge!

 

I asked my teller for change in five cent pieces and she just gave me groups of 5 pennies. Did I say penny, I mean one cent coppers. By coppers I mean copper coated zinc. Maybe if I ask for change in bucks the politically correct can arrange some nice 8 points.
