Last week I visited a new shop that specializes in world coins. The drawback of this as opposed to where I normally go is they know what stuff is worth, so I'm unlikely to get a great deal. But they had a great selection too and I got a lot of nice stuff, including many things I've never seen. Here's an example of what I picked up. I have a bunch of pics so be patient. Here's the first group of European stuff.
Africa. The West African coins look like they came from the mint yesterday, and the 1955 and 1960 South Africans are proofs.
Philippines. It's funny because someone posted on here recently about Philippines coins being hot. This place had pages and pages of Philippines but unfortunately I didn't have a list of what I still needed or needed to upgrade, but I got these.
These are from a few different places. The Bolivian coin looks better than the photos could capture. The Peru is really nice too.
Here's the last group. The Ceylon looks brand new. The German coin is the one real steal I got in this visit. I think they thought it was just a regular corroded World War II coin, but it's actually from the Allied occupation and pretty rare. The Tonga coin is just weird. The Japanese coin is also in great shape, and the last is from Japanese occupied China which is becoming a new interest of mine.
Hello Dragon, Wasn't there a CT post recently asking about dealers of foreign coins? (Could have imagined it in my dotage) This looks to be an excellent place for foreign coin collectors..Thanks for the Heads Up, J.T.
Nice haul. The ones that jump out at me are the 25 and 50 bit Danish West Indies coins — nice examples, particularly the 25. Also really like the British West Africa penny. Not rare at all, but of historic value because of Ed the 8th, and a very nice example. Just a lot of stuff to like here. Well done, sir!
