Hey Guys, Just wanted to show off a new addition to my collection. I saw this and I really couldn't refuse, the toning on the silver is magnificent! Picked it up for 45 dollars, thinking about getting the set graded(maybe with or without the cent and nickel). Let me know if you beleive this was a good price, so I can learn from my mistakes (or rejoice in my purchase!).
Your 1959 P Franklin is also a Type 2 Reverse (similar to the Type B Quarters, struck using proof dies.) Check for the DDR as well.
Nice set. I wouldn't send it in for grading. Some of those coins look like they've seen circulation. I agree the toning is pleasing to the eye on the Frankies, Washies and Roosies. One of the cents looks lusterous in one of your photos too. I think you did well for the price (no expert on pricing these). Cherish the purchase and keep it the way it is.
Thank you for mentioning this. Just another useful tidbit of information. Comparing the "P" franklin to the "D" franklin there is no doubt of which one used the proof die. However, i am confused on the DDR. At toward the bottom of the page, is this the DDR I'm looking for? http://www.franklinlover.yolasite.com/type-1-and-2.php#Type 2 RDV . Maybe its the drawings that are throwing me off.
I wouldn't send it, but that's just a personal preference for me. I think it's a great looking set, and I think you paid a fair price.
This is the DDR you are looking for: http://www.franklinlover.yolasite.com/doubled-dies-1959.php#1959 DDR-001 . One of the most obvious pickups of this variety is the wing on the eagle because there are two different designs. Nice set! I just want to echo the other's sentiments that it probably is not economical to get graded. I believe across all denominations for this year are fairly common in high grade. Thus, a coin would need to be a very high grade coin to justify the costs. (even the DDR Franklin would need to be very high grade to justify the costs)
