Looks like this section was added to the bill because of this... http://www.cbo.gov/showdoc.cfm?index=6271&sequence=0 report by the budget office. One line reads... Barriers to the public's acceptance include the continued circulation of the $1 bill and the commingling of the Susan B. Anthony and Sacagwea dollars in rolls for distribution, which would not be eliminated by H.R. 902.
This report came before the bill was passed.

As for when we will see the new dollars... According to the Mint, it would need at least 18 months to design, test, and produce a new $1 Presidential coin for circulation.
So, 18 months after the senate passed the bill and works out the differances with the house.

I'm with Tanner on this one. I hope they don't continue with the current Sacky composition for long. I remember watching the documentary on the making of this coin. What a load of....ummm....manuer. I guess with all their corrosion testing everyone forgot just to pick a darn sample up and see what figerprints did to it. I have never seen a circulated Sacky that isn't either heavily spotted or fingerprinted....read as just plain ugly. Image design asside, the "golden dollar" makes for an ugly coin 30 minutes out of the roll.

Kind of a slap in the face to mint a "tribute" series on a material as base and reactive as a chunk of lead.

If my count is correct there are now 56 cosponsors for the senate presidential dollar coin bill. 56 /100 all thats left is for them to vote. Done deal.
