Picked this set up this today, thought I would share it here. Lovely toning on the smaller medal (will attempt to take better photos later this week) with a bit more subtle toning on the larger one.

    Holder Label:

    Man on the Moon
    July 20, 1969
    Apollo XI

Both are marked 999.9, and I believe the smaller medal is 1/2 oz of silver while the larger one is 1.6 oz.

Haven't been able to locate mintage/value information yet, but will keep looking. Think I saw one example listed on eBay, but after finding it once I can't seem to locate it again.

Anyway, thanks for stopping by, and have a wonderful week!

    Who made them?
I can see Bodley/sv on the left.
Is that writing in the top stripe of the flag?

I'm not really sure - as I said, I'm having some difficulty even finding other examples online. There used to be a website I used quite frequently that had a bunch of silver medals on it, but I can't seem to find even that any more.

Yes, it looks like the designer's name (looks more like BODLAK than BODLAY, but I'm not quite that knowledgeable on which is correct) and SV in the fields. No writing on the flag that I can see.

My guess is that you will find the makers mark on the third side.

That was my thought as well, but I believe I checked the rim and didn’t see any markings at all. I’ll have to revisit it when I go home for lunch (to feed the cats.)

Just wanted to chime in that I did check the edges and their lips are sealed...no sort of maker's marks to help us out.

Found one like it on eBay.

    Seller claims:

07/20/1969, Silver (1.595 Troy Oz., .999 fine) medal struck at the Solidus Mint in West Germany
    Sculptor: Kurt Bodlak (Austrian 1924-2017)

Info taken from Princeton University Newman 5 Archives

I don't know if any of this is true but maybe it helps?

Yes, that's very helpful. As I mentioned before, I actually found a 2-medal set on eBay at one point, but can no longer find it. I believe they had it listed for $249 BIN.

    Thank you!
