Once again my dealer had a mitt full of ancients and it was hard to decide what to take. This was one of the nicest in the lot.

You mentioned you had about 40 ancients now? Surprised you havent posted them like you did when you first begun.

I had to set up another safety deposit box and when I did, I threw in a few small boxes of coins that I had sitting around. One of the boxes had my ancients in it and I just haven't brought them back home yet. I'll try this week and get some of the pics up.

All I need is a kick in the rear to get it done.:D

I like the Ptolomy (Egyptian) style Eagle on the reverse.

Very nice radiate bust Philip I tet. I cannot quite read the last letter in the reverse legend, which is the Greek numeral indicating which consulship..... it looks like regnal year 3to me..... from what I can see. Great pickup though, wonderful eagle. Do you have the weight?

    Eagles

Ripley Yes I love the types of eagles on the reverses of the Philips Tetradrachmai, which is why I started collecting them, then I got into the bust types, and I just love that 'bust left, cuirassed with medusa head on breastplate' one, and have several which are some of my favorite coins.
As far as eagles go, some of these tets of Nero and Trajan and Hadrian have a more Ptolemaic style eagle, with the wings closed, here are some examples. First two are of one of Nero, the second is of Trajan, both these are from Egypt, Alexandria to be precise, whereas the one posted by Ikan, and the other ones posted by me above are from Antioch, Syria.

Nice, about average weight for the type. Great Tet. I hope to have some new Philip tets with frontal bust left soon. I am going out of town to Malaysia for a while later this month, so I probably wont be doing much coin buying untill I get back. Thanks for sharing your coin in my thread Ikan.
