I'm just sayin' ... I always get my back-up when someone plays the "possible-fake-card" unless that collector has some evidence/examples that one of my coins might be suspect (I was merely trying to give you some advice on coin-etiquette ... it's a bit like walking in a golfer's line) I like you ... I hope that you're having a sweet holiday season, my new coin-friend
I think it was fair to bring up the possibility of the Pontika drachm being a forgery. The pic is small, there's a lot of glare that distorts the fabric, and these types are frequently counterfeited. Knowing that it came from CNG puts my mind at ease, despite the pic that makes it look rather like an aluminum game token.
=> wrong Sure, but then you should try and find some sort of evidence, before you pull the fire-alarm (that's all I'm saying) gawd => if my wife happened to join this site, then she'd be calling "looks kinda fake to me" on every coin ... that's not what collectors want, is it? (hey, I definitely want somebody to tell me if my coin looks a bit shady, but I also definitely don't want all of my coins being questioned merely because somebody thinks that it doesn't look exactly like their coin, or the coin in Sear's book, etc) hey ... again, it's not my coin, but "I'm just sayin" => if you're gonna pull the fire alarm, then you'd better be prepared to justify your remarks/accusations
Exactly ... apparently, you know that I'm correct ... Oh, and I'm not either of those wrestlers ... => I want to be known as "The Anaconda"
I call fake on every coin? No offense, but that dog don't hunt. I didn't even call it on this one, just simply raised some concerns about the prolific amounts of fakes for that type of coin. I will accept an apology, and your delicious hippo sestercius, and we can call it even. Just kidding! Ok, joke aside, I like you too Stevex6. I get your point and why you say it, and I have no hard feelings regarding this. I just honestly think that I didn't cross any line.
Should have read this more carefully. I accidentally bid on a RR denarius Now I'm bidding on two coins. A Greek drachm I actually wanted to bid on and the accidental RR denarius bid.
You can withdraw a bid, especially this early. Just give them a call Monday and let them know you are new and made a mistake. They are very nice people at CNG.
Now it is my turn to fight with Steve. I completely agree with Sallent's statement and the fact that I would not touch that coin UNLESS it came from someone of at least CNG caliber and not from a bulk lot with no guarantee. When the comment was made, we had no idea where the coin came from and that photo looked a great deal more like an eBay escapee than anything else. I also remain of the opinion that there are plenty of types of coins that are not known to be serious problems to the point that I'll just not buy one of these and spend my money on something that makes me feel good about the whole matter.
I'm not quite sure why people are turning-on me, but I'm sticking to my comment that you shouldn't call foul unless you have some backup info ... I certainly didn't mean to ruffle feathers (chalk-up another misunderstanding for the frozen dude!!) If I could spin-back the ol' clock, I should have said "Cool new OP-coins, JBG!!" and then thrown-in a smiley faced guy, peering-up at the fancy coins ... is it too late to enter that as my Final-answer?
