Welcome! You will probably not find a friendlier, more casual, and more upbeat conglomeration of ancients collectors on the web.
Is Dark Side code word for meth? Because all I did was try this forum once 16 months ago and somehow I've now got ancient and medieval coins coming out of my safety deposit box, every drawer in my bedroom, and my desk at work. What happened? It was all one giant blur and when I woke up I was swimming in coins.
Yeah, I figured with all the money I've sunk into this hobby, I could have had a really nice and fancy month-long vacation in Europe. Oh well, I'm not complaining. I love my coins.
Welcome. We always value someone new and different to add to our diverse little group and especially value someone who has a background in ancient coin education. I had not heard of HIYH but it reminds me a bit of the old Ancient Coins for Education for which I mentored before budgets cancelled the participation of all the public schools I served. I, for one would be interested in hearing your experiences in exposing youth to coins or, for that matter, history. We could also use some fresh blood in starting threads that might suggest areas of the hobby that might interest our members. I know many of us would welcome seeing a new set of both coins and topics. Personally, I am a very low end collector with only 28 coins from HJB (26 of them before the year 2000) but our diverse little group includes quite a range in many respects. Thanks for dropping in. I hope you will enjoy the experience.
Welcome @ShannaS ! I do not have a coin from you to show, but you did me a great service many years ago when you sent me information on a coin that some attribute to P Scipio from 209 BC. That would make him the first living Roman on a coin. You even sent me pages from "La Moneda Hispanica desde sus orgigenes hasta el Siglo V" by Fernando Alvarez Burgos. I did not buy the coin from you, but have picked up one since - P. Scipio, after 209 BC, AE, Burgos-425, Robinson, Mattingly festschrift, 7 (p). , Obv: Bare head of P. Scipio l., with short straight hair and Roman nose. Rx: Horse standing r., palm tree in background.
I add my welcome, Shanna. I knew Harlan when he was in Joliet way back in the 1970s. The family has come a long way since then. I wish you success in the business.
I like ancients and medieval coinage but don't seem to run across many in my journeys, Welcome to Ct, I read your page, awesome what you are doing for the youngsters!
Welcome. I've bought a few coins either directly or pedigreed from HJB; coincidentally, including this one about 1 hour ago: Seller's photo I'm looking forward to some insight from an expert in Greeks. -Michael
Hello Shana, a big welcome to you from Germany. I looked at your website this morning - it is very well presented with excellent pictures. Congratulations! Very much looking forward to your participation in the forum.
Well, I'm totally with Ragnarok ... a beer would be fantastic right about now (5:30am, the day after the Super-Bowl) I've never bought a coin from your family, but I hear they know a lot about coins => I wish you nothing but good times on this site!! Cheers, Shanna Oh, and don't cause any trouble (I've heard rumour that you're a rebel!!)
Kindest regards and warmest welcome to the Ancients Forum, @ShannaS . I hope you enjoy the friendships developed here!
