What do you guys think about the idea of a beginning guide to coin collecting for the new members who join coin talk? It would help educate new members and prevent question like "is my circulated 1968 dime valuable?". Just something to think about. -wheatmaster
22,000 results for "beginner's guide to coin collecting" in Google... If they don't bother looking for one in there, they won't do it in here neither.
Read this... https://www.cointalk.com/threads/the-future-of-cointalk.245432/ ... then contact OP via PM. The idea can't be new, if we already have the CTUniversity.
It is a lot quicker and easier for them to just ask us, instead of reading 100+ pages and doing lots of research. I am ok with that.
I agree! Complete waste of time! Most of them just want to know how much their road rash or machine doubling is worth. Chris
Perhaps (us) beginners need a "Beginner's Link"... If it was an easily-accessed link below "The Coin Show Radio" link on the right side of our screens, it wouldn't totally be a bad idea. Somebody would have to write it up, though. And then other CT members should read and suggest revisions. I personally would like links (in that same location) instead for links to the members' profiles and homepages of CT Members who have devoted years and/or lots of research in specializing in certain areas of Numismatics. Who's the Bust Half expert here at CT? She/he should be prominently featured as the "go to" guy/gal for that field. Completely voluntary, of course.
You mean kind of like this one ? https://www.cointalk.com/threads/beginning-coin-collecting.13996/ That has existed for over 8 years now.
I do like the idea of fleshing out something like Doug has in that thread and making it into a more accessible document. I've got a bunch of projects backed up right now though, can't see myself getting to it before next year.
