It's so that <i>even if</i> somehow in the future someone <i>does</i> come up with, say, an authentic 1964-D Peace dollar, all the information necessary to disambiguate his work from the real ones is right there.</p><p><br /></p><p>IMO, Dan's stuff is nowhere near dangerous to the hobby, and I'm glad he can make a good living for himself doing what he does. He's a great technician, by which I mean I love his exact renderings of classic coinage, but I don't care too much for most of his original stuff. I do like the state quarter reverses he's done, the coin club medals I've seen, and even the North Marianas Islands World Trade Center coin, but his Amero series doesn't do it for me, and neither do most of his Hard Times tokens. And, truth be told, at some point, I might consider buying a copy of the software he wrote to do this from him and trying to figure out how exactly he renders those classic designs so accurately.</p><p><br /></p><p>The bottom line for me is that his fantasy dated coins are probably less dangerous than the old Gallery Mint stuff, which was marked COPY in accordance with the Hobby Protection Act. For one, the Chinese typically make fakes of coins that actually exist. For another, they're typically low quality, badly executed, ugly, and sometimes not even the correct metal. Dan's stuff is the exact opposite of all of that, <i>and </i>he tells the whole world exactly how to figure out if what they're looking at is his work or not.</p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p>Yeah, seriously.</p><p><br /></p><p>Where's the CT suggestion box, anyway?
