I'm sorry..I'm new to posting I need feedback as I have not found information on these coins having errors and what that value might be. The first pillar has a blob on top of it
Looks like a small die break, which probably wouldn't add any value. The value is probably not very much, about $10-$20. Where did you find it?
In the early days of copper nickel coins the mint had a lot of issues with dies due to the harder metal. Because of this die cracks and breaks are quite common. It is almost harder to find some issues without any die damage.
Due to the death in the family I inherited a very very small collection. I found it in amongst some foreign coins. This experience has prompted me to look through coins I've saved for years along with coins my mother has thrown in numberous jars over the course of her years. I have asked and am now receiving my great grandfather's small collection as I am having a blast with this appreciation of modern day coins and the hunt that may lead to a new found treasure.
That's very interesting. Thank you! I could almost swear even though this was the first year they used nickle that it in fact appears to display all the characteristics of silver! Wishful thinking perhaps ..Newby here
A 3 Cent silver was also made for this year but it's quite valuable. The 3 Cent silver was made from 1851-1873 and the copper/nickel made from 1865-1889. If your coin had been silver, the value would be around $450.00.
I guess researching a little more would help me. I have a smidge of a retention problem on my own so discussing some specifics on coins, in particular this coin, is sure to resonate for future diagnostics. Thank you
Ya! now that you mention it... I was hoping a fine commenter would acknowledge what I thought i was seeing!
