My new Domitian question, is this an AS or could it be a Dupondius, or just a large bronze. ? For my 12 Caesar group. Better than the one I have. Thanks. Should be Moneta. Dam ipad." Ye old Mammothtoother
Yeah, it should be an as. Typo' on the "monster" Is the legend fully readable in-hand? There are several coins that fit what I can see on the obverse: http://numismatics.org/ocre/results?q=authority_facet:"Domitian"+AND+material_facet:"Bronze"+AND+fulltext:MONETA+AND+fulltext:IMP+CAES+DOMIT+AVG+GERM+AND+fulltext+P
I’ve always loved this history behind ancient coins… but I remember when I first started collecting that I was a bit disappointed that many affordable coins featured personifications of X or Y, and the imagery of “someone standing there, doing something.” So… a reverse with a monster holding scales… would be a nice change of pace and probably command a premium that I could not afford. Haha.
