I just read about a new commemorative coin featuring the band Queen. There will be several versions and types. Read about it here : queen-uk-coin Plus there's some write-up info about the band's (actually, it's probably their label) latest release.
I loathed them back in the day. All the girls were crazy about Freddie and I couldn't compete. I do enjoy their music though. But a commemorative coin? Shouldn't that be a Franklin Mint release?
Not one of my favorites and haven't even seen the movie yet. I rate them about the same as Supertramp, one really good album and all the others so-so. Are they coin worthy, maybe to the Brits? So many others that deserve their place on the reverse ahead of them. At least the Queen now has her likeness and reference on both sides.
Growing up as a kid in the 60's and 70's, it was all Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones and Eric Clapton for me! Have really come around later though to appreciate how good a band Queen was. Agree with Randy though - a commemorative coin?????
So the UK chose Queen to be their first band commemorated on a coin? I would've thought The Beatles would get this honor.
Those people WERE Americans. They feel a close relation with the American people. Look up a list of notable Liberians, many have more "American" names than even people like myself do. That very country was founded to be a black-led version of America.
I was the same until I heard Dragon Attack and that changed song changed my mind that they could absolutely rock.
You are correct Sir. The name Liberia is derived from the word Liberty. Here's the Wiki on Liberia : History_of_Liberia
And the announcement about the coins from Top40-Charts.com : news.php very similar, if not word for word, as the first announcement. The mint will be producing coins honoring other great British bands. Sooner or later.....The Beatles ??
As forQueen, I cast the "Hate 'em" vote. Their music has always been like fingernails on a chalkboard to me. I avoided the movie for that reason.
