Grey is often described as the colour of invisible. It's ambiguous and impartial and can be easily overlooked. It’s calm and dispassionate and doesn't influence the colours around it, but too much, particularly if it’s a dark gray–can be depressing. Gray is the perfect neutral, as it can moderate brighter hues and pull out colours.
