I'm really hooked on these. It's taken a few years of study and a really good friend to help me understand what I'm doing. At the same time, I still have much to learn.
Had 3 bust halves but had to let them go during the great depression, as in i was depressed because i had to sell them to pay bills. I love the bust coins and hope to get more.
I have 1 no date bust half 18 with a 2 or 3 Not planning on collecting them but that is a pretty coin
Is that a GR-1? I was looking through coin facts, and couldn't find any in that die state? I love it! She's Purty!
I'm not a toning guy. But that could be under graded. No reason it's not 55 or even 58 on a good day. No bag marks, no nicks. Maybe a tiny one on the reverse over the left wing. Uncleaned, good details, the lightest circulation. I think 53 is a tad low.
Well, It was cleaned at some point. I have to agree with 53 but CAC would not give it a bean at 53. That keeps it at a low 53 or less.
Finding an attractive 39O is not an easy task. I've seen very few of these toned - even if it is secondary toning after a cleaning. Usually the surfaces of these are all marked up, but yours appears to have nice smooth fields. I think that 53 is the correct grade, but CAC likely didn't sticker it because it had been cleaned at some point. That re-toning is not a look that CAC likes.
