Hi Everyone, Read about this today. Another bullion coin coming our way lol http://www.apmex.com/product/149299/2017-australia-1-oz-silver-swan-bu
Not bad. But definitely not the most iconic animal that I think of when I think of Australia. How about an Emu? Haven't seen that before on bullion coins. Edit. Too bad they wasted the emu on palladium. Who the hell wants palladium, anyway? http://www.apmex.com/product/117283/1996-australia-1-oz-proof-palladium-emu
I like it! Some interesting details: *potential series with changing designs *in a capsule *mintage of 25,000 I just hope this release will be smoother than the silver kruggerands.
They are up on Apmex. Apmex is using its usual pricing strategy. *1st availability: around 24.83 *Then 25.33 *Then 26.33 *Now at 27.33 Note those are check prices for orders of 1 coin. There are volume discounts. It appears that Apmex sells 1000-2000 and then ups the price by 0.50 to $1 per coin.
Actually swans are very iconic for Australia. Don't know how many people know this but Australia is the only place where Black Swans live. Before explorers made it there no one knew Black Swans existed. So a lot of state flags and coat of arms have black swans on them.
The 1991 Pride of Australia series had an Emu on their 10g 22K (.29oz) $200 coin for that one year (reverse changed every year). I've been trying to acquire one of those for a long time without having to pay a 20% premium over melt.
First "investment" silver I've bought. Figured I'd take a chance. The price smarted, but I was willing to pay up to 40 for the krugs,so this wasn't entirely unbearable, just mostly.
I agree there are a lot of series, but if you pick and choose the ones that you like or the established ones (Perth: Lunar, Kookaburra, Koala; RCM: maples near spot for stacking), then you should be fine.
That was my thinking as well. Krugerrand: 1 million mintage, $60 per coin raw, potential to be a series vs Swan: 25,000 mintage, $25-$27 per coin raw, likely the start of a series
