Most of my collection is US coins and some coins from other countries. I usually don't buy many Ancient coins because I don't know much about them so I don't know if I'm getting a good deal or not. But I have found one dealer who travels the world and writes articles about Ancient Coins so I feel he knows what he has and he always seems to give me a good deal. Bought a new coin from him at a recent show. Love the profile and detail on the coin and it didn't cost an arm and a leg.
Nice one! I need another Parthian. I've only had one- briefly. Need a non-Classical ancient or two in my Eclectic Box. Where's the reverse picture for yours?
Nice lookin' new Parthian! Awesome how affordable this things are hu? I don't have your ruler, but this coin is of the same basic style. Parthian Empire, Vologases III, Drachm, 105-147 AD. O: Bust with diadem to l. R: Archer seated to r. holding bow. Monogram A below, Ecbatana mint, 3.9 g, 20 mm, Sellwood 78.3
I only have a few from Parthia: PARTHIA Orodes II 57-37 BC AR Drachm 18mm 3.3g - killed Crassus pour gold - Ekbatana l stars cresnt Arsakes bow anchor Sell48.9 Parthia Mithradates III 58-55 BCE AR Drachm 3.9g 20mm Rhagae mint star archer bashlyk throne bow Selwood 41-12 Parthia 177-138 BCE AR Drachm Diademed draped bust Mithradates I left bashlik - archer seated on omphalos Sellwood 10.1
Nice OP coin, it is Sellwood 63.6 -one of the more common Parthian types, but a good example of the type. (Of course, I may be slightly biased in favor of Parthians.) That low centering of the obverse is actually normal on Parthian drachms, though nobody seems to know why the Parthians consistently struck their coins that way. Please feel free to post any more Parthians (or any other ancients) you have so that we can enjoy them.
