The ONLY TPGS I trust with vintage Chinese coins is NGC and I have heard that they are not 100% correct on these.
TBQH, I think PCGS should be trusted ahead of NGC, in the current marketplace, as PCGS has a HK office which has hired Chinese specialists, who are well respected in the Chinese market.
AFAIK so has NGC and I believe NGC was in that market first. Also, there is nothing like letting the wolf take care of the sheep. Get my point? It was very easy to copy the TPGS slabs from those two services because they had their plastic made in China! Based on personal experience, I would take the opinion of a Chinese dealer/consultant on the authenticity of a coin as only an "informed opinion" to be tested for accuracy.
That sounds racist... In all seriousness, though, I agree on trusting NGC for most world coins, but specifically for China, I'd defer to PCGS HK. As for my coins with ANACS... I'm still not even certain whether the Chinese coins are what are holding up the submission. All I was told was a couple of the coins had to be sent to a consultant, which added three weeks to the submission timeline. Those three weeks have come and gone, so I'm really curious on how they're doing for turnaround.
Man, I want to now use this special and it expired Anybody know if they have another going on currently or is the cutoff absolute, maybe they will still honor this one??
Yup, on 'til Halloween. That said, I'm still waiting on my order... ANACS is blaming the "consultant" for the delay. Personally, I think that they need to do a better job of following up when they send coins off-site. Apparently, they didn't even bother to check with the consultant until I brought up how long (mid-August) they've had the coins. That said, $139 sure is tempting... let's see... I could get nine coins reviewed by CAC for $135 or 15 coins graded by ANACS for four dollars more... oh, and shipping is free from ANACS.
I'm a month in for my 15 coins last check ship date was 10/24 and coins in grading. Fingers are crossed .
Well just checked mine are ready to ship but no word on grades. I hope to hear something tomorrow on the results .
You had coins that required sending out to a consultant. Variety or error I'm guessing. That takes time. Did paddy?
It does take time. In the past, it resulted in me getting my coins back at 18 days instead of 15... this time it's at 46 days instead of 21. Also, according to the CSR, my other coins have been graded, but they have no access to the grades until the consultant returns whichever coins needed consulting.
I have 2 batches of 10 from the last special, 1st batch of 10 has a open date of 8/10 and the 2nd has a open date of 9/1......all 20 need VAM verification and both batches are at "Consultant". The suspense is killing me! I choose to believe that JR is so impressed with my coins he's doing a photo shoot of each one because they are so rare and interesting and he just doesn't want to give them back. That's what I choose to believe..... I'm sure he had to send several of them to LVA for new VAM listing.....hee hee hee Chris, I know you have been thru this and know the feeling! I got another batch of 15 going in a few days....sure can't beat the price!
Where do you put the promo code on the submission form? Or do you just put in the ff in the special offer area?
