Got it today.........to be honest I like the old design better but it was struck well. I will give the series another year or two to see what they come up with before deciding to stick with it or not.
I bought directly from the Royal Mint the day it came out for $115. For the premium, if next year doesn't blow me away, this will probably be it for my Britannia collecting. That is a high premium, but I have enjoyed the series so far and I don't dump a lot o money on other coins, so I'm ok with it. Can't remember the code off the top of my head, but there are free shipping codes on the internet for the Royal Mint.
I think I will pass, thats just too high for me, but thx for telling me. I am doing a big purchase soon and looking for interesting items with decent pricing.
I agree; I'm also not a fan of the 'modern' look. Apparently each year a different artist will put his/her spin on the design so I'm hoping it will get better. I was hoping this would also look better in hand, and it does, just not as much as I was hoping.
Wow $115 way to rich for my blood and not digging the design that much. I've been collecting the bullion versions of the Britannia but I don't think I'll be buying this one.
I like the simplicity of 2013 Britannia. that's just me. Let's hope future .999 Britannia will have better design.
I've just receive the coin as well. It is a nice coin and the mintage is not bad for the price. It is the first proof Britannia coin as 99.99% silver and it comes the promise of a new design each year. I purchased three and see how it does when the next coin comes out next year.
My 2013 Britannia, both 1oz and 5oz arrived at my doorstep today. Photo #1: My 2013 Britannia proof among my 2009-2012 1oz Britannia proofs Photo #2: My 2013 Britannia 5oz squashing the rest of the 1oz Brits
Nice coins there, yrh. The Chariot (2009) has always been my favorite Britannia design. I'll bet that 5-ouncer is very impressive in person. Thanks for posting these.
With a mintage of only 1,250 these Britannias will surely command a large premium in the future. If I had £185 spare I'd buy 2. One to keep and one to sell in a few years time to pay for the one I kept.
Because the public demand is such that they sell. Earlier this year the mint had to suspend sales because they couldn't meet the public demand.
Total mintage for 1oz Britannia proof is 8,500; my guess is that the remaining 6,000 pieces will be in coin sets. This information only appears on the COA and not on Royal Mint's website.
The 2007 design is still my favourite. I am glad they change the designs every year, since some of them stink.
