Due out in 2017, reverse designed by a schoolboy. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...ats-6-000-entries-Royal-Mint-competition.html
I am a big fan of bi-metal coins, and these IMO look more interesting than the previous 1 Pound coins. And hopefully these will be harder to counterfeit.
Well, I'd better get started with my machine to plate the centers of the thousands of old threpenny bits I have, silvery colour.
excellent design, the school boy was very pleased when he had the phone call from the chancellor George Osborne to tell him that his design had been accepted
This young man is very talented. Could we have a new Arnold Machin, Mary Gillick, Matthew Dent or Christopher Ironside in our numismatic midst? I certainly hope so.
Nice bi-metal coin...hope there are more designs from this school boy...nice to have a fresh breath of air in the industry.
Could you explain the different items represented in the design? I see a thistle bulb, an aloe plant, and a shamrock. Oh, and a crown. I get the crown. What about the plants?
From right to left, shamrock (clover) Ireland, Thistle, scotland, leek, Wales, Rose,England. The most notable previous plant design was the thrift (yes, it is a plant) on the back of the nickel-brass threepenny bit.
Here is a new video that explains some of the security features, such as the micro lettering. Pretty cool. Christian
