Great coin with a cool reverse that ties with a story related to him, whether it's true or not.

    Is that a Gibson cithara?

Marvelous coin! Yes, the kind of bowed instrument he's playing in the cartoon wasn't even close to being invented in Nero's day.

It's a Martin. You can tell by the unique style of cross bracing on the stiles.

    Good one, Orfew!

You seemed rather straitlaced over on CU. I had no idea you had a zinger like that in you. ROFL!

Great reverse, but an even greater portrait.

    Excellent coin!
Here's one from the Nero years that you've all probably seen before. A Judaean Procurator, Porcius Festus, prutah.

Nor were early fiddle-like instruments shaped that way or, IIRC, even typically held that way.

Wasn't Nero away from Rome when it burnt, too?

WOW!!! That's a fantastic coin I absolutely love it!!!

Yeah, it seems Nero had an 'alibi' or so some claim....I guess we'll never truly know the truth of what actually happened then or by whom.

My best example of a cithara; Chalcidian League, 432-348 BC, Apollo on a tetrabol.....and a denarius of Nero with Salus that I recently picked up:

It must be Apollo. I think Nero was a portly fellow.

Another beautiful Judean coin, but I'll make a prediction now deacon. In another 2-3 months we are going to have you hooked on non-biblical ancient coins too. No way you last longer than that seeing all the cool varieties in this forum.
