hello, I'm planning to get this coin, but I am not sure is it real or not, so PLEASE HELP, ae as 9,23 g. unknown diameter and I have never seen a Nero coin with a portrait style like this.
It looks fine. The weight is correct for an as. The style is normal - this is a common type for Nero and is frequently the first coin of his that many collectors acquire. Just don't overpay for it. Compare it to other retail offerings here.
It's a pretty common coin. Looks totally legit to me. But how would you know that I know what I'm talking about? The best advice is: "Know the coin or know the dealer."
@Elvis the new collector the portrait looks good, but on this type "IMP" is always on the right side after GERM - you can see the description here: http://numismatics.org/ocre/id/ric.1(2).ner.312 so yours may be a variant
..i'm wid ya on the kinda funky portrait..but styles vary from mint/celator all else lQQks and sounds right... these types are fun to collect...i have a couple of left facing As's...you're the 2nd new person whose come and asked advice today
Looks fine to me This is my ‘Nero & Victory’ coin with a small dent. Nero, as. RIC 543. 10,95 g. 29 mm. Obv. IMP NERO CAESAR AVG P MAX TR P P P; Bare head right with globe on tip of bust. Rev. Victory flying left holding shield inscribed S P Q R, S C in fields. Minted in Lugdunum, A.D. 66.
That's a fine example @Marsman. Generally, the SPQR is worn where it can't be read without difficulty.
