I lost out on a Nero playing lyre provincial so i made it up by buying this... and several others.(i'll show me!) Nero facing left with globe at base of portrait Flying Victory left holding SPQR shield minted 67 at Lugdunum Ref. RIC 606 Cohen 303 It's got a lil bit o BD going on, but i've already coated it with verdi-care for starters FEEL FREE TO POST COMMENTS AND COINS PEEPS
Quite a few of these Nero Ae's were present during the great fire of Rome, your's has a lot of detail but the typical rough surface exhibited on so many of his coins of this period.
Indeed AA, most all are, but i don't mind. Gives them character. This is my 2nd victory As and maybe my 1st facing left..idk for sure, i've gotta lQQk at my other one
..I also had to get a lyre coin to go with it ya know..it just happens to be on a Antiochus ll Theos (Greek)
Attractive and with plenty of detail despite a bit of roughness. Another thumbs up for that SPQR! Here's an even rougher one that I like for its colour. And another one that didn't suffer quite as much.
I've always LOVED the 'ancient look'----at the right price--- as long as they have significant eye-appeal as well.....and all the posts above certainly have that. A couple of mine in that 'category'----an As and a dupondius:
ominus1, I quite like it actually. Nice coin, it has character. This is one my favorites (out of a dealer's 'junk' tray for 1,5 euros)- the reverse is almost gone, but it has a VESPA countermark indicating it was struck by forces loyal to Vespasian (and sympathetic to Nero) around the time of the civil wars of 68 ad.
