Why do you need help ASAP? This is with your father.

If this coin is given to you from your dad I would never flip it unless you are starving or have to post a bail. That being said I hope you appreciate whatever coin for its numismatic and sentimental value (I would go however for the CC because I like them)

Pick the CC, put in an airtite and put a label on it marked "from my dad" hold on to it and see if you still want to flip it.

I like option 1 the best. I'm sure the cc is more valuable but, I don't care for the look.

If you are taking with the intentions of flipping, don't take the CC. Just not worth it. Take the peace.

by flipping I mean waiting until a real gem of coin comes along and offering it in trade along with cash. My father understands this. Its hard to get sentimental about a dad coin when dad has 5 more 84 CC and 3 85 CC all of which look pristine. He is helping me to build a collection, I apologize to anyone offended by my truthfulness. Is lying about the situation the proper thing to do? Just so I know for future reference.

Not offended. Just surprised a bit. If your dad is fine with it, your best investment is the CC coin. It'll be the biggest bang for your buck as a upgrading trade coin.

Wish my dad had been a collector but he gave me a few coins he found over the years. It's cool that you and your dad can spend time with the hobby.

I'd go w/the '84. If you ever start a series set, you'll be happy you chose the CC.

I'm wondering why you'd flip the CC to fund new acquisitions. It won't net you enough in the flip to buy you much of anything - certainly nothing measurably "better" - and the CC itself is a must have for any Morgan set anyway.

Correct, I wouldnt flip a 84-CC to fund the purchase of a $200 coin. I would, however, sell the CC for (just pulling a number out the air) $150 and add that $150 to the funds I currently have so that I will be closer to purchasing the 1937 Buffalo Brilliant Proof in PR-66 with a green bean (whether you feel a 37 Buffalo PR-66 w/CAC is measurably better than 84-CC with a face that only a mother could love, well, umm, Ill just leave it at that). I feel like half of the people replying to this thread understand what I am saying and what I am trying to accomplish and have been helpful in their responses and to you I say thank you, and the other half is under the impression I am trying to assemble a Morgan set and that I hate my Dad. Just to go on the record: I am not doing anything related to assembling a Morgan set. Yes they are great coins, I love em as much as the next collector and maybe that will be a future project but for now, a Morgan set is nowhere on my radar. And finally (I cant believe I have to even say this) I love my father, he understands that I have a particular collecting goal at the moment and he was happy to throw a little help my way in the form of an 84-CC. And a big thanks to member Idhair who obviously understood the real point of the thread which I started. Idhair, I absolutely cherish the time my dad and I spend working on our respective collecting projects and helping one another in our shared passion of collecting, and thank you for your reply.

Based on what I see in the pictures, the 1884-O is an MS66 and the 1884-CC is an MS63. If that assessment is accurate, I would have to go with the 1884-O...(option #1).

Btw, I have 28 rolls of my Father's Morgans and I would NEVER consider selling any of them. They're his legacy and I'm merely a temporary caretaker. Of course, my Father is no longer living so I guess that's a difference.

1936-1938 Buffalo proofs are great collectibles, too. Any chance you can buy your coins and keep your Father's coin, too?

Yes, keeping it is certainly a possibility. Thank you for addressing the questions I put forth in the original post BTW. You are one of only a few who addressed the issue I was wondering about. Thanks

Sure, I get what you're saying. I think it's common for collectors to be accumulators and as such, a little unable to grasp the concept of selling one item toward the pursuit of another. They'd rather keep the original item and save for the new one. But then again, just tonight I sold $2,000 worth of coins to fund a slabbed St. Gaudens double eagle, so I get where you're coming from.

The CC is your best bet on a decent price for the flip, as virtually everyone has pointed out. Buyers are pretty forgiving on appearances when there's a CC stamped on a coin.
