    Hello everyone,

Was wondering does an 1810 Real have a mint mark? If so where would I look for it on the coin? Coin is not in good shape lots of marks on it but just wondering about a mint mark. Thank you

It has been through a lot but the mint mark is clearly visible (H.J) upper left on the reverse. Screenshot_20220408-140359_Chrome.jpg

The mint mark is actually the M with the o over it for Mexico City. Screenshot_20220408-140359_Chrome~2.jpg

Really?interesting well of course it would be minted in Mexico but isn't the H.J reffering to the specific mint?.

I believe that's the assayers' initials.

The book must've gotten the marks mixed up then, possibly a printing error.

Looks like the series is classified by date and assayer as they all have the Mexico City mm.

Unfortunately it is unlikely to be genuine with that low of a weight, yes even with that much wear.

All of the responses are so interesting, will have to do some more research. I found this at a pawn shop several years ago and it came in this case. Thank you.

I have to dig up my book on The Unreal Reales: Counterfeit 8 Reales to look at more pix. At least I wasn't able to see anything in your 1810 design that was indicative of a counterfeit.

One thing I've noticed is that digital scales sometimes become inaccurate. Could you check your scale with a similar weight? Two USA 1964 or other late 90% silver half-dollars should total 25.0 grams. If your scale is off on those, then it'll be off on the 1810.

Also, better pix could help. This pix for example is a little blurry. 1810 8 REAL 12.jpg
